Managing Problem-Solving Iterations in Product Development
نویسنده
چکیده
Problem-solving is a useful way to view product development. In many cases, design teams iterate through a generate-test cycle until a successful design is found. The time required to find a successful design is influenced by the testing strategy. In particular, the amount of time spent generating a solution affects the probability of passing the test. This paper introduces a novel model of the generate-test cycle, develops results from the model, and presents useful insights that can be used to make better decisions about managing problem-solving iterations.

Solving product mix problem in multiple constraints environment using goal programming
The theory of constraints is an approach to production planning and control that emphasizes on the constraints to increase throughput by effectively managing constraint resources. One application in theory of constraints is product mix decision. Product mix influences the performance measures in multi-product manufacturing system. This paper presents an alternative approach by using of goal pro...
متن کاملManaging Virtual Product Development team: A Review
Although there are many potential benefits associated with the use of virtual product development teams, exploiting these benefits requires an appropriate management. Managing virtual product development team is a critical issue as many of these teams fail to accomplish their goals. Review of previous literature shows that body of knowledge in managing virtual product development teams is fragm...
متن کاملManaging Automotive Product Development
The new product development (NPD) is the process by which a new product idea is conceived, investigated, taken through the design process, manufactured, marketed and serviced. In Automotive Engineering these related to the product realization process (PRP) which consists of five phases: "Plan and Define Program", "Product Design and Development", "Process Design and...
متن کاملThe Effects of Ambiguity on Project Task Structure in New Product Development
Cop New product development (NPD) projects are characterised by task ambiguity, whereby the set of tasks necessary for project completion and the relationships between tasks are initially unknown and only emerge as the development process unfolds. This paper uses interview data from NPD project managers in a large telecom firm to examine the influence of product requirements ambiguity on NPD ta...
متن کاملAn Algorithm Based on Theory of Constraints and Branch and Bound for Solving Integrated Product-Mix-Outsourcing Problem
One of the most important decision making problems in many production systems is identification and determination of products and their quantities according to available resources. This problem is called product-mix. However, in the real-world situations, for existing constrained resources, many companies try to provide some products from external resources to achieve more profits. In this pape...
